So I thought I scheduled this post 2 weeks ago and just realized it never posted! Anyway, a few weekends ago, we met the Harris family at the zoo for a fun day with perfect weather. The Jackson Zoo has never really been anything worth mentioning, but we decided a few weekends ago that it was beautiful outside and we should give it a try. I went many times as a kid and always had a good time, but over the years they've had some major funding issues. They are finally starting to sink a little money into it. They have a way to go, but have done some great updates. We actually had a really good time and will certainly go back. All of the animals were out and active and Emma and Asher had a great time. Get ready for lots of pictures!
Just getting started. The wee ones weren't too sure about it at first.
Notice the tiger...way too close for my comfort.
As my husband noted..."At other zoos you may find a penguin exhibit or even elephants, but here in Mississippi, we have a squirrel exhibit"
Good buddies
She finally warmed up and was ready to "Go, Go, Go." Poor baby had blisters on her feet from all the walking she did :(
Time for a little break
Em learned the word bird - read "bur"
Cheesin' with pops in a tree trunk
Emma saying "Come on Asher, let's go play!!"
Wrestlin' gators with daddy

Asher was tired...
Emma was tired...
But we still had to go to the petting zoo!
Emma was not quite sure why Asher was petting the big fat "dog"
Warming up to the animals
And petting/patting the goats and chickens
This was her second trip to a zoo, but the first time Emma really knew what was going on and she loved it. Every animal she saw was a "dog" and said "woof" and some of the animals said an occasional "moooo".
Keeping with the animal theme, animal sounds Emma now knows:
"woof" for dog
"gobble, gobble" for turkey
"moo" for cow
snort/::sniff:: for a pig
"nay" for horse
And another fun animal related fact:
She has a toy that sings 'Old McDonald' and now she walks holding it around singing "e i e i o"
